I've never been shy about being a Patrick Wilson fangirl. From "Phantom of the Opera" and "The Alamo" to "Lakeview Terrace" and "Morning Glory", from "The A-Team" to the "American Dad" episode he was in, I have yet to see a performance from him that I didn't like. He is able to create each and every character he plays and develop them into real people you can believe in. Not too many in show biz can say that about every role they've played. Not to mention he can sing like nobody's business, play the drums, and dance, too.
So we went to see "Insidious: Chapter 2" last night. As usual, I was not disappointed. It doesn't hurt that the others in the film were great too. Rose Byrne as Renai, Barbara Hershey as Lorraine, Lin Shaye as Elise, Leigh Whannell and Angus Sampson as Specs and Tucker, Ty Simpkins as Dalton; they were all great. Steve Coulter as Carl was a wonderful addition to the ensemble as well. James Wan has given us three old-school style horror movies now, and I truly hope he will make more of them. Both "Insidious/Insidious 2" and "The Conjuring" are wide-open for continuing story lines.
But I digress.
The storyline was creepy, horrifying, and completely satisfying in that it tied up loose ends from the first movie. I don't want to spoil anything - go see it for yourself, you won't be sorry! The whole thing was so totally believable, even the ghoulish bad guys/gals, that you have to wonder when (not if) this kind of thing will happen to *you*.
Which brings me back to Mr. Wilson. From Doting Dad to Demented Demon, he plays it all so flawlessly that you can't even tell exactly when it strikes you that... wait, can't say. Spoilers! Suffice it to say, the storyline (and he) keep you guessing.
Go, see the movie. If you haven't seen "Insidious" yet, do that first. DirecTV has it on DirectCinema for $3.99. That's half what we paid for just one matinee ticket today. Or check out a local movie rental place. Heck, Walmart might even have it on the $9.99 rack. You don't *have* to see it first, but it certainly makes it easier to keep up with a few of the twists and turns.
