New year, new stuff

Well, we made it. Happy 2013 y'all!

I just might tackle the "house cleaning" everyone seems to go through this time of year. I have far too many accounts and emails and such. I have this blogspot, a tumblr, a Scribd page, and a Facebook page. I have at least two Twitter accounts. I have three e-mail accounts with my provider, three with gmail, and two with yahoo. I'm on MSN messenger once, YIM twice, and AIM twice. I use Digsby to try and keep them moderately organized, but I've only managed  minimally organized. Then there's all of the yahoogroups I belong to under those two different yahoo accounts, and the two different forums I'm actively reading and participating in. Oh, almost forgot Pinterest, and one or two orther similar photo sharing accounts. Then there's Ancestry.com, which can keep you busy forever just clicking on leaves to see where they lead.

This list is, of course, missing all of the other email accounts, instant messengers, and such that I've had in the past and since completely forgotten are out there. (Anyone remember MySpace? ICQ?)

Remembering passwords is a nightmare. I'd try that global password thingie, but what if I forget *that* password? Some accounts insist that you change your password every so often, while others don't. This has left me with dozens of passwords either in use, or that were in use prior, and keeping them straight is darn near impossible.

I have 378 Facebook friends. One Twitter account follows 210 with 275 followers, the other one follows 34 people and has 143 followers. I follow family, friends, celebrities, newsies, entertainment stuff, society stuff, political stuff... all kinds of stuff. I'd hate to unfollow any of them; I'm following them all for a reason, ya' know? But that's 622 people right there. Well, okay, there's probably some overlap between accounts, but honestly, not all that much. I have separate accounts for a reason too (you know, to keep all the folks I'm following - what's the word?  - oh, yeah; organized).

Of course that number triples when you add in all the retweets and reposts and shares and favorites and... you get the picture.

I know I'm not the only one in this mess. I know this by the number of tweets and posts and such from all the people saying the same thing; I gotta prune down these lists of people I follow!  I join you all in the sister/brotherhood of the internet travelers, bogged down in a traffic jam of endless electronic data. I may try to unfriend/unfollow a few of you, but I'll likely be back as soon as I realize how much I miss your online presence.

So, if I don't reply or retweet or share or repin something, please don't take it personally. I love you all. I'm just overwhelmed by all of the wise, witty and wonderful information flooding my way.

It's not you, it's me. Really.

So where was I going with all of this? No idea. At least I've got my thoughts on the matter a bit more - you know - organized. Maybe that will help 2013 be a better year for electronic communications, if nothing else, eh?
